Sustainable Development

In a context where climate change has become a reality and where cities and sustainable and durable infrastructure are in demand worldwide, Eiffage is turning low carbon emission construction into an opportunity to make a difference.

Innovation is the most effective way to act in favour of the ecological and energy transition.

In its Climate Report 2020 the Eiffage Group sets out is commitment to the future and the challenges faced by the company to achieve sustainable growth.

For this purpose, we have designed a responsible strategic plan. Innovation is one of the three pillars of this plan, and is the most effective and legitimate way to act in favour of the ecological and energy transition.

In this context, emphasis should be placed on the E-Face fund, which is the Spanish acronym for “Eiffage – carbon energy arbitration fund”, specifically earmarked to support activities aimed at avoiding carbon on the supply side. This fund finances the cost difference between a regular high-emissions technical solution and an alternative solution with low carbon emissions.

“At Eiffage we view the environmental challenge as a market opportunity, where we must provide solutions through innovation, investments in energy efficiency and the development of low carbon emissions. At the same time that we respect, protect and promote biodiversity in our working environments”

CEO of Eiffage in Spain

Pioneering strategy

The objective is a global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain of the different areas of activity. To ensure that the entire Eiffage Group works to reduce its own carbon footprint, each office will set a target and criteria for measuring its own emissions and, in the first instance, will look at including low emission solutions in their bids.

We turn low carbon construction into an opportunity

We have made the ecological transition and innovation into two key parts of our strategic plan. That is why our innovation policy and our R&D investments are aimed at the low carbon economy. Therefore, our goal is a general reduction in emissions throughout the value chain of our businesses. To achieve this, we must set an example with our own emissions by reducing them significantly. As a construction company, our role is also to help our customers reduce their own emissions by implementing our low-carbon solutions, as much as possible, in line with our strategy and our values.

LOW CARBON STRATEGY

A global approach based on 7 inseparable pillars

To speed up the implementation of these solutions, our sustainable development policy is built on 7 inseparable pillars: new mobility, renewable energy and energy efficiency, low carbon emission design and construction, new digital uses, urban agriculture, biodiversity and ecological engineering, and a circular economy. We are mobilizing our capacity for innovation at the service of these seven pillars to provide a global response to all low carbon emission challenges, for the sustainability of the city and infrastructure.

PILLAR 1
New mobility

Eiffage’s teams are helping to develop new low-carbon mobility by integrating technological innovation and environmental and social challenges.

PILLAR 2
Renewable energy and energy efficiency

Eiffage’s teams are helping to develop new low-carbon mobility by integrating technological innovation and environmental and social challenges.

PILLAR 3
Low-carbon design and construction

The Group aims to become a leader in design and construction with low carbon emissions, particularly by developing the use of bio-based materials and taking advantage of the energy optimization of construction materials and structures through the development of alternative replacement solutions.

PILLAR 4
New digital uses

Ensuring smart urban heritage management to shed light on the sustainable city of tomorrow is one of the Group’s top priorities, and it is deploying innovative solutions adapted to suit new uses for this purpose.

PILLAR 5
Urban agriculture

As a response to increased urban development, the Group is boosting its urban agriculture initiatives, which now systematically form part of its main development projects. The goal: to reintroduce nature and commercialize landscaping in the city, thereby providing numerous ecological and health benefits.

PILLAR 6
Biodiversity and ecological engineering

To reduce the impact of its projects on nature and biodiversity, our Group favours avoidance and ecological reduction measures while developing real knowledge of environmental compensation.

PILLAR 7
Circular economy

Eiffage promotes as much reuse and recycling as possible at its sites, which reduces and recovers waste. Selective deconstruction, the internal exchange of good practices and the recycling of specific materials: today, the Group is establishing itself as a major player in the circular economy.

Ecotour

Aware of the importance and need to publicly disclose Eiffage’s sustainable development commitments and guidelines, in October 2019 Valérie David, director of Eiffage’s Department of Sustainable Development and Intra-group Innovation (DDDIT) officially presented the EUROPEAN ECOTOURS as part of the framework of the INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MANAGERS MEETING of Eiffage Énergie Systèmes.

The ECOTOURS are days when Eiffage’s Department of Sustainable Development and Intra-group Innovation travels to different countries to present the Eiffage Group’s strategic guidelines on carbon emissions, biodiversity, ecological compensation, environmental impact and sustainable innovations.

Spain is the first European country where an international ECOTOUR will be held, in March/April 2020, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium.

Eiffage innovates for the ecological transition.
