Metal structure details – Lille Stadium

Eiffage Métal, located in the town of Madrigueras (Albacete), completed one of its most innovative and emblematic projects in 2011. It was the construction of a metal structure located on the roof of Lille’s Pierre-Mauroy stadium (France), until 2013 known as the Grand Stade de Lille. This structure allows the French stadium to be completely covered in under 30 minutes. Pierre-Mauroy was opened in August 2012 and currently hosts matches played by the city’s club, Lille Olympique Sporting Club, founded in 1944. It is an innovative, modern and multifunctional stadium that can host all kinds of events. It can be converted into a sports arena in less than 24 hours to host basketball, tennis or rugby matches, or even concerts, thanks to the stadium’s special removable floor. During the European Championship it hosted 6 matches, the last one being the quarter-final match between Wales and Belgium on 1 July. The following technical specifications implemented at the Madrigueras facilities should be highlighted:

  • Start of production, 2010.
  • Two lower moving roofs with around 500 tonnes of metal structure.
  • High quality requirements in terms of both welding and surface finish.
  • Manufactured with a bolted assembly system, which made its transport and subsequent assembly easier.
  • Each structure has dimensions of 77 x 38 meters.
  • Around 50 people from our facilities worked full-time on this project for 6 months.
  • Capacity of 50,000 spectators.
  • The facilities cover around 25,000 m2.
